We all need support. And we’re not talking about those Lycra sports leggings – we’re talking about real, human support. We’re talking university support services.
When you’re fresh out of high school, uni is your chance to live life on your own terms. Being a uni student is awesome. You’re in the driver’s seat, choosing your subjects, tutorial times, what to eat, when to study, when to get out of bed. You’re the boss!
Except for when you’re not. Because life. It happens. Just because you’re more independent doesn’t mean you don’t get sick, or get behind in your coursework, or have financial worries. It’s part of being an ‘adult’, and we all have times when we need a hand. That’s where the uni you go to can make all the difference.
When you’re studying at Charles Sturt University, you’re studying with us. This is one of the most important differences about being with a regional university – you’re with country people. We’re friendly, warm and welcoming. We’re here to help you achieve your goals. And we know how to take care of you.
At Charles Sturt, support isn’t an ‘add-on’ – it’s part of your experience. Being supported is just a normal part of being in our family. We’ll introduce you to all our academic and social support services early and encourage you to use them often.
Let’s take a look at all our university support services.
Student Central
This is your first point of contact as an enrolled Charles Sturt student. If you need a hand with your subject enrolment, study skills or finances, or you’re just not sure who to ask about something, this is the place to go.
Health and counselling
Healthy students are happy students. We have a great range of services and information available to keep you in top physical, mental and emotional shape.
Equity support
Our Student Equity Office provides advice and support to ensure all our students have the same opportunities to succeed, no matter what their circumstances are.
Disability Service
If you’re a student with a disability, our Disability Service will provide advice, support and adjustments if needed, to ensure you can participate 100 per cent in your studies.
Religious support
Need to talk to someone about life’s most complex questions? We can connect you with religious and spiritual support and access to community resources and services, both on and off campus.

Our support team is dedicated to helping you succeed, in person, online or over the phone. We’re available seven days a week, and it’s free. We’ll help you when it suits, including in the evenings and on the weekends.
Study Link
Study Link is perfect if you’re preparing to start uni, but you’re a little rusty. Our Study Link program can help you brush up on your skills or fill in any knowledge gaps in a particular area. You can start these short, self-paced subjects anytime, and if you’re a Commonwealth-supported student enrolled in a Charles Sturt course, they’re free.
Learning advisers
Our learning advisers are available seven days a week, in person on campus, by phone, email, Skype or online chat. Charles Sturt learning advisers have academic and teaching backgrounds, and specialise in subject areas as well as in literacy, numeracy and the English language. You can ask specific questions about your course or more general questions about how to get the most out of your uni experience.

Uni life advice
Our student liaison team is a squad of Charles Sturt staff who can help you with any questions you might have about life at Charles Sturt. You can find them through the Charles Sturt student portal once you’re enrolled with Charles Sturt, along with a list of their speciality topic areas.
Library services
Naturally, our campus libraries have all the resources you’ll need to get the most out of your degree, giving you access to thousands of electronic resources, audiovisual materials, books and journals. But our mission is to go far beyond that – providing library services to you anywhere, anytime – with online access, ordering, support and secure 24-hour collaborative study spaces.
Careers
When you study with us you’ll get career development workshops, support finding work experience placements, personal appointments with our career development officers and tips on job applications, résumé writing, interview techniques and job search strategies. And it doesn’t stop when you graduate. We’ll also help you with résumé reviews and advice during your first year after graduation.
Ally Program
Our Ally Program promotes a safe, inclusive and affirming environment for staff and students who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, queer or questioning (LGBTIQA+). Through Ally, we’re building a culture of affirmation and inclusion by raising awareness of the experiences of staff and students who are LGBTIQA+, and by providing a visible support and advocacy network of identified Allies to the LGBTIQA+ community.
Support = success
In our experience, being supported from the day you start makes a huge difference to your study experience, your results and your career prospects.
Charles Sturt = support
At Charles Sturt, we wrap our support systems around you like a onesie. Weird analogy – but we think it’s one of the reasons why Charles Sturt continues to have Australia’s highest graduate employment rate.
